Literacyworks supports literacy and lifelong learning through it's Literacyworks Center and Family Reading programs  and through a variety of projects and partners throughout the US. Meet Ambassador Theodore “Ted” Eliot Jr. and Support the Literacyworks Center

We are pleased to announce an afternoon with special guest Ambassador Theodore “Ted” Eliot Jr. (ret.). Ambassador Eliot served in the American embassy in Moscow in the mid-‘50s at the height of the Cold War; in the American embassy in Tehran the mid-1960s and for four and one half years as Ambassador to Afghanistan. He then became Inspector General of the State Department. He was named Dean of the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University.

  • Travel south on Hwy 101.
  • Exit at E. Washington St. At the stoplight, make a left turn onto E. Washington St.
  • Proceed eastbound on E. Washington St. to Sonoma Mountain Parkway.
  • Turn left onto Sonoma Mountain Parkway. Travel 1.22 miles.
  • Turn right onto Campus Circle.

FROM THE SOUTH:

Michael Krasny is Literacyworks Lectures Next Speaker

We are pleased to announce an afternoon with special guest Michael Krasny. Dr. Krasny, PhD is host of the award-winning KQED FORUM, a program discussing news and public affairs, current events, culture, health, business and technology. He has published a great deal of fiction, literary criticism and political commentary. A professor of English at San Francisco State University, he has been Visiting Professor at the University of San Francisco, Adjunct Professor at the University of California San Francisco and taught in Continuing Education at Stanford University, as well as being an Associate of the San Francisco Urban Institute. He lives in Marin County.

We are pleased to announce a timely talk by Brian Fishman on Sunday June 11, 2017 at Santa Rosa Junior College Petaluma.

Paul Heavenridge, Executive Director of Literacyworks (www.literacyworks.org), a nationally recognized nonprofit providing literacy resources to adult and family education programs, announced today the organization’s 2017 Literacyworks Lecture Series (www.literacyworks.org) is kicking-off with Brian Fishman (ticket information below).

The lecture series is a fundraiser for the Literacyworks Center, a project of Literacyworks in collaboration with the Santa Rosa Junior College. The Center helps low-income, low-literacy adults enroll and succeed in these educational programs by providing scholarships, mentoring, support and a pathway to college at the Santa Rosa Junior College.

Brian Fishman is a counterterrorism research fellow at New America, a Fellow with the Combating Terrorism Center (CTC) at West Point, and Philanthropic Engineer with Palantir Technologies. He previously served as the CTC’s Director of Research and was a professor in the Department of Social Sciences at West Point. Fishman is the author of a number of studies on terrorism and al-Qaeda, including seminal investigations of al-Qaeda's foreign fighters in Iraq and Iranian support for Shia militias fighting U.S. troops in Iraq. Fault Lines in Global Jihad: Organizational, Strategic, and Ideological Fissures, a volume he co-edited with Assaf Moghadam, was named one of the top books for understanding terrorist recruitment in PERSPECTIVES ON TERRORISM. He is also the author of The Master Plan: ISIS, al-Qaeda, and the Jihadi Strategy for Final Victory.

Fishman is a term member of the Council on Foreign Relations and was a founding editor of the CTC Sentinel. He has taught as an adjunct professor in Georgetown's School of Foreign Service and Columbia's School of International and Public Affairs. Before joining the CTC, Fishman was the Foreign Affairs/Defense Legislative Assistant for Congresswoman Lynn Woolsey. He grew up in Penngrove, CA.

This event will support low literacy, low income adults overcome barriers to completing and being successful in college by acquiring the skills to access and complete college programs.

Ellis Auditorium on the Santa Rosa Junior College Petaluma campus from 3p.m. to 5p.m.

This event will support low literacy, low income adults overcome barriers to completing and being successful in college by acquiring the skills to access and complete college programs.

Tracks Benefit Screening For Literacyworks

The acclaimed film Tracks tells the incredible true story of Robyn Davison (Mia Wasikowska), a young woman who embarked on a journey of self-discovery by undertaking a perilous solo trek across 1,700 miles of the stunning Australian outback with her dog and four camels. A chance meeting with award-winning National Geographic photographer Rick Smolan (played by Adam Driver) gained her a sponsor, provided that he photograph her journey for the magazine.
