A lot in the news lately about water. Too much in certain places, too little in others . Frozen water in the form of snow and ice –slipping and creating avalanches. Mudslides in the Philippines. Rising sea levels –an inch every 3 or 4 years. Earlier melting from rising global temperatures---of our natural reservoirs—the snow packs in the Sierras. These will melt faster and run away from us sooner. Where we will make up for that lost water supply?
Last night’s news focused on recent scientific evidence that one of the moons of Saturn looks like it may have flowing water. Possibilities of life there?
The Super Bond—shaping up for legislative action tonight—has billions for water. So many categories, so many issues: water recycling, water quality improvement, Delta water quality, safe drinking water, water use efficiency, watershed protection. Delta levees, river levees, flood control. The list goes on.
While we ponder all these other issues, let’s not forget to drink lots of water. Some proclaim it to be the best of beverages. Others will argue that green tea or a glass of wine trump a glass of water anytime. Don’t worry you can have all three---and even fit in a glass of milk or cups of coffee or diet cokes or a couple of beers in the daily hydration routine.
Still and all, let’s drink lots of water. It is very healthy for us!
As part of my “Lent focus,” –on the list of what I’ll do more of – is starting the day with a tall glass of water and making sure I get a few more during the day. I’ve filled up water bottles for my car and have water handy in my office.
Next tip will share why this is so important. It the meantime, enjoy water! It has something to do with the fountain of youth and the fundamentals of life.
