2005 Tip #5:
Paying Attention, Focusing

Here we are! Here and now.
Alive!
Conscious!
Self-aware!

Are we “seeking” or are we “enjoying the moment?”

How are we balancing the time and energy going into the goals we have to improve ourselves with the time and energy of living in the present moment?

This day is about two minutes longer than yesterday.

This is the day the Lord hath made. – Psalms 118:24

What are we going to do about it? How are we going to use our time today?

One of our tipsters, Mailana, shares this thought:

Pay attention!
Attention is living; inattention is dying.
The attentive never stop; the inattentive are dead already.

--Dhammapada 21, translated by Thanissaro Bhikkhu from Daily Buddhist Wisdom

Whether with our personal goals, our goals at work, whether with our nutrition or exercise goals, focusing is important. Think about these goals. Write them down and then review them from time to time. Talk them over with a friend.

At the same time, have a terrific day! Pause in the hectic schedule and appreciate the day. Carpe diem!
