You may have a bad credit history. A bank may have closed your account because of bad checks. If a bank does not want to trust you with an account, try these steps:
Many people do not realize how writing “bad” checks can hurt your credit rating. And it is against the law. But you can repair your credit over time.
- Go to the bank and tell how you will do things differently this time.
- Ask to open a savings account instead of checking. This will let you be able to cash a paycheck or other checks you get.
- After a few months, ask to have a debit card for your savings account. If you do not have problems with this, the bank may see that you are ready to handle a checking account again.
